Plastic welding rods TPE - Thermoplastic copolyester elastomer
TPE (thermoplastic elastomers) are materials that combine the properties of rubber with those of thermoplastics. TPE is soft and can be plastically deformed by heat input, allowing processing by plastic welding, injection moulding and extrusion. Thermoplastic copolyester elastomers are used in a wide variety of applications, such as bumper brackets, Construction components, handles, hoses, sealing rings and door buffers.
Thermoplastic elastomers are plastics in which elastic polymer chains are embedded in thermoplastic material. Copolymers are used either as statistical or block copolymers. The former consist of a crystallizing main polymer, e. g. polyethylene, whose degree of crystallization is reduced by a comonomer incorporated randomly along the chain, e. g. vinyl acetate, to such an extent that the hard phase in the finished material no longer has direct contact. As in conventional elastomers, they then act as isolated cross-linking points. TPE is very difficult to varnish, print or glue without suitable pretreatment. The melting point of thermoplastic copolyester elastomers is approx. 200°C, the continuous service temperature is max. 100°C.
